Why use pre-cooked chicken?
I have ADHD and sometimes the thought of cooking overwhelms me.
When I see a huge ingredient list and a long list of instructions, my brain freezes up and I tell myself there’s no way I could ever make that.
But taking little shortcuts- like using frozen chicken patties and store-bought sauce- puts my mind at ease and helps me get an actual meal on the table.
It’s definitely not the traditional recipe, but it sure is delicious!
Can you use a different type of frozen chicken?
Yes, you can! I’ve also used frozen chicken nuggets and chicken strips. Just cook them according to the directions on the bag.
Since those types don’t have a lot of surface area, you may not be able to add the sauce and cheese to melt in the oven. That’s why I think the patties are the best chicken, but you can still make it work!
Can you use raw chicken for this?
If you have your own boneless skinless chicken breasts and want to make your own, you can definitely do that but it requires a totally different recipe.
Check out my 5-Ingredient Chicken Parmesan to find what you need! It uses the following in it:
- Chicken breasts
- Breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
- Spaghetti sauce
- Egg
- Shredded mozzarella
How to make
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the frozen chicken patties on a baking sheet and cook for 20 minutes or according to the directions on the bag.
Meanwhile, heat a large pot of water to boiling and cook the spaghetti, 7-8 minutes.
When the chicken patties finish cooking, add a spoonful of spaghetti sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese on top of each patty, then place back in the oven for another 5 minutes to let the cheese melt.
Serve the chicken on top of the spaghetti and enjoy!
How to store
Once this recipe cools to room temperature, you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.
If you don’t want soggy chicken, skip the sauce and cheese while cooking and add it to the top of the spaghetti instead. Lay the chicken patty on top, then place the container lid on top.
Side dishes to serve with this
You already have a good amount of protein and carbs thanks to the chicken and spaghetti! Here are some side items you can enjoy:
- Caesar salad or side salad
- Steamed vegetables (I like using bags of frozen broccoli and green beans)
- A side of garlic bread, if you want all the carbs
