Ingredients
You only need 4 simple ingredients for this recipe:
- Crescent roll dough: I use store-bought to save time
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Pepperoni: Classic, but feel free to switch it out
- Pizza sauce: For dipping, because everything tastes better with sauce
Substitutions and Variations
- Cheese: I also like a good Italian blend!
- Toppings: Mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, onions… load it up!
- Meat-free: Skip the pepperoni and load it up with veggies
- Sauce: Try Alfredo, garlic butter, or ranch for dipping instead
How to Make
1. Preheat and prep
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grease a large baking sheet. This prevents the pinwheels from sticking and leaving a mess (ask me how I know this).
2. Roll out the dough
Open up the can of crescent rolls and gently unroll it onto a flat surface. Press the seams together to form one large sheet.

3. Add your fillings
Sprinkle the mozzarella over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Then lay the pepperoni on top in an even layer.

4. Roll it up
Starting from the long side, carefully roll the dough into a log. Pinch the edges closed to keep everything inside.

5. Slice and bake
Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into 1-inch rounds. Place them flat on the baking sheet, leaving a small space between each one.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until the tops are golden brown.

6. Serve and enjoy
Let them cool for a minute, then serve with pizza sauce and your favorite side items!
How to Store and Reheat
These pinwheels are amazing fresh out of the oven, but they also store well for later.
How to store
Keep any leftover pinwheels in an airtight container in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for up to 5 days.
How to reheat
- Microwave: 15-30 seconds. These will be soft, not crispy.
- Oven: 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes.
- Toaster oven: Toast for 2-5 minutes. This will keep them crispy!
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I stop them from unrolling?
Be sure to roll them up tightly, then pinch the edges together firmly.
Can I use homemade pizza dough?
Yes! Just roll it out into a thin rectangle, similar thickness to the crescent roll dough. You may have to experiment with the baking time.
What dipping sauces go well with these?
Pizza sauce is classic, but you can try these too:
- Garlic butter
- Alfredo sauce
- Ranch dressing
- Spicy marinara
