Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

This Strawberry Banana Smoothie is sweet, high protein, and has only 4 ingredients! Perfect for a hot Summer morning!

One of my favorite things about Summer is enjoying cold drinks.

Maybe it’s a glass of iced coffee in the afternoons. Or maybe a creamy smoothie for breakfast. These help get me through the days and weeks while I look forward to the cool weather of Fall.

Smoothies are an easy way to get in extra vitamins, and can be a healthy start to busy mornings! You just need a handful of ingredients and a good blender, and you’ve got a healthy breakfast at your fingertips.

Other additions and substitutions

This is an easy recipe in and of itself. But if you want to add some extra nutrition, use any of the following ingredients!

  • Favorite milk of choice: Use dairy milk like whole milk or 2 percent. Or use another non-dairy milk like coconut milk, soy milk, or oat milk.
  • Yogurt: Use vanilla yogurt instead, or a favorite non-dairy yogurt.
  • Chia seeds or flax seeds: Extra healthy fats and fiber!
  • Peanut butter or almond butter
  • Protein powder: Chocolate or vanilla protein powder would taste delicious in this!
  • Vegetables: Add a handful of spinach for a nice green smoothie!

Health benefits of a homemade smoothie

Making smoothies at home can be SO beneficial. At first, it might be a little overwhelming getting out all the ingredients. But pretty soon you’ll have a system going and making a morning smoothie will be much easier!

Here are some reasons why I love smoothies:

  • Using fresh fruit adds Vitamin C and other important vitamins, which can help boost the immune system. Fruit is also a natural sweetener, so you may not need to put in any added sugar.
  • Smoothies can help you lose weight! Using the right ingredients will keep you full longer and can help reduce cravings.
  • They’re easy to meal prep! You can put the fruit, vegetables, and nut butters/ seeds in a plastic bag and stick them in the freezer. That way all you have to do is add liquid to the blender, then pour the frozen bag of ingredients in too.
  • They can make a quick breakfast or quick snack if you’re in a hurry and need something on-the-go.

Tips for the perfect smoothie

  • Use a ripe banana for a sweeter flavor! The browner the banana, the sweeter it’ll be.
  • If you want your smoothie to be less watery, freeze your fruit first! Frozen strawberries and frozen banana can be used instead of ice and can make a creamier smoothie.
