Broccoli cheese soup is probably my favorite soup ever. It brings back a lot of childhood memories and is definitely one of the classic soups during soup season.
You can make this delicious soup many different ways. But the broccoli soup recipe I currently make consists of chicken broth, broccoli, and also cauliflower. I use an immersion blender to get a creamy soup without having to use heavy cream.
A bowl of broccoli cheese soup is a good main course, but sometimes I have trouble thinking of the right side dish to go with it. Are you the same way?
In this post, I’m sharing my top 10 best side dishes that you can eat with broccoli cheese soup. Some of these have recipes to go with them, so click the title on each one to get to the recipe!
Bread bowl
Do you ever feel fancy eating soup out of a delicious bread bowl? I don’t do it often, but it’s almost like a gourmet meal when it does happen.
I usually dip my bread INTO the soup, but with this I don’t have to! Bread and soup together is basically the best comfort food.
Sandwiches
Soups and sandwiches just go together so well. It’s the perfect lunch combo!
The best part is, you can create any kind of sandwich. I keep it simple, usually grilled ham and cheese sandwiches or a regular grilled cheese sandwich. A lot of soups don’t have a lot of protein, so whatever I choose as a side will have at least some protein in it!
Pretzel bread
My family has become obsessed with pretzel bread items! Pretzel rolls, pretzel nuggets, pretzel buns… the list goes on.
And with this cheesy soup, you can dip the pretzels right in like a sort of cheese sauce!
I go the easy way and buy pretzel bread from the store. But I try to get it from the clearance section!
Cornbread
I usually eat cornbread with chili, or non-creamy soups. But cornbread is still a good option!
My favorite recipe is these healthy cornbread muffins. Super simple to put together, making both this and the soup an easy meal!
Biscuits
There’s a lot of bread items on this list! Broccoli cheese soup isn’t very carb-heavy, so as a runner I like to add extra carbs on the side.
Homemade biscuits are amazing. And I believe those delicious cheddar bay biscuits would be a great choice, too!
French bread
When I think of soup, I think of crusty bread to go with it. And French bread is a perfect match! I love dipping a piece of bread into soup and scooping up the leftovers in the bowl.
Breadsticks
I use my favorite recipe for bread machine breadsticks fairly often. They take a bit of time, but the flavor is SO much better than what you can find in the store.
They’re made with basic ingredients that I always keep in the house!
Salad
Finally, a vegetable!
Salads are a great side dish for almost any meal. You can be basic with lettuce and tomatoes, but you can also step it up with extra vegetables like cucumbers and red onion. I also like adding extra cheese and a shake of croutons.
Baked potatoes
Potatoes are carb-filled and can help you stay full longer! I usually top my baked potatoes with sour cream, bacon bits, melted cheese, and broccoli.
OR- You can pour some cheesy broccoli soup on TOP of the baked potato, just like what Panera Bread had. This is giving me ideas!
Roasted sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes seem like an odd combo with soup, but I think the sweetness can add a great contrast to the savory flavor of the soup! It’s a healthy dish that I love serving with chicken or in Mexican-inspired meals.
You can roast these in the oven, but I also like using my air fryer to roast diced potatoes. It’s super easy!
