33 Little-Known Facts About Me (Birthday Edition)

It’s been a couple years since I’ve done a birthday post! I try to focus on the meal planning and shopping topics, but sometimes I have to take a break and be fun.

Today I turn 33, and I feel young and old at the same time. I feel great because I try to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, but I’m also tired like all the time. 4:00 AM wake-up calls every morning will probably do that to you, though.

But to celebrate today, I thought I’d be fun and share 33 facts about me that you might not know. I’m not all that interesting, but we all have our little quirks that are entertaining to read. See if you could have guessed any of these:

1.) No matter how hot it is outside, I always start my morning with a hot cup of coffee. (Although, my favorite time of year to eat lots of ice cream is Winter… go figure.)

2.) My favorite pastime is browsing Instagram with the hashtag #mealprep and getting motivated by people who have way more time than I do

3.) I have a bad habit of starting many projects and finishing none of them.

4.) I will frequently pace around the house at any time of day to make sure I get my 10,000 steps.

5.) My extracurricular activity of choice in school was choir. I joined Varsity Choir in 11th grade and it was cool being able to travel around the state and compete.

6.) In high school, I really thought I was gonna go to college to be a Spanish teacher; I just loved the language. Then on a whim, I went to massage school instead and did it for 6-7 years before I had Allison.

7.) My body temperature gets a little crazy sometimes. If it’s even the tiniest bit warm out, I have to put on shorts because I hate being hot. But then there are days when I absolutely cannot get warm.

8.) I was actually born in England and lived there less than a year before coming back to the States.

9.) I never thought I’d be a stay-at-home mom. In fact, I secretly thought it was an easy job and the moms just didn’t want to work. I just want to apologize right now for my pre-child ways because man. I had no idea.

10.) I’ve only had 2-ish full-time jobs in my life. When I was 15, I started out at McDonalds and worked there until I was 24 and got married. I got my massage license at age 20 and worked both jobs until then. Now I’m a jack-of-all trades: Stay-at-home mom, blogger, part-time receptionist, teacher, and now fitness instructor. When do I sleep again?

11.) I’m half packrat, half minimalist. Probably just lazy. I do my best to get rid of clutter, but also let papers and other things pile up because I might need them later.

12.) I hated exercise for the longest time. Didn’t ever want it in my life until 2015 when I realized my baby weight wasn’t going away, and now I can’t go a day without doing some form of exercise. It’s addicting!

13.) I was a huge anime nerd back in the day. You’d always find me watching Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, or Gundam Wing. Nowadays, I simply don’t have time to binge watch shows.

14.) My favorite food has always been pickles. I used to sit down with a bowl of pickles as my snack, and it’s still my topping of choice for sandwiches.

15.) Even though I’m an amusement park junkie, I get horrible motion sickness if I ride certain rides or ride too many in a day. I have to plan carefully; and it also doesn’t help that Allison’s favorite rides are the ones that spin around really fast.

16.) I never enjoyed true coffee until later in adulthood. My version of coffee was always the sugary Frappuccinos or the mochas from McDonalds; I never realized that a simple cup of coffee with a splash of cream was TRUE coffee and the best kind.

17.) My favorite color has been purple for the longest time, but there’s really no purple items in our house. In fact, pretty much all of our house is painted in greens and browns.

18.) I love the Beachbody programs, will recommend them all day, and I even teach one now… but I will never be a coach. I love my coach friends, but as someone who promotes frugal living, I cannot in good conscience tell you that you should spend over $100 a month on Shakeology.

19.) I hate walking around barefoot. But I also don’t like wearing shoes. So I’m always in socks, which means I go through packages of socks like nobody’s business.

20.) My hair is always up in a bun because having hair in my face bothers me. But I love long hair so much I don’t want to cut it. It’s such a conundrum.

21.) When I eat my meals, I always start with the vegetables, then the main dish, and then my fruit if I have it. I like ending my meal with the “best-tasting” food in order to feel satisfied.

22.) When I was in high school, I decided to try and write a novel. It was basically a mash-up of stolen video-game ideas, and I just thought it was so good. I created maps, character bios, the works. The binder with everything I’ve written is still sitting on my bookshelf, ready for me to look through and laugh at.

23.) A lot of my life revolves around food, as you can probably see from this blog. I’m constantly thinking about what I’m eating for the day. Even though my meal plan starts on Sundays, I start meal planning on Wednesdays so I can go shopping on Fridays. It feels like a week-long process but it’s what works for us time-wise so I stick with it.

24.) One of my favorite pastimes used to be cross stitch. Back when I did massage, I would work on projects inbetween appointments (which were sometimes hours apart). My favorite project was this Aeris portrait, which took months and months but I’m so proud of it. Now I want to do some more.

25.) I’d much rather sit back and listen to people talk rather than talk myself. I’m an observer and catch on to more than people think. Not sure if this is a good skill to have, haha.

26.) If I can’t have bread, then life isn’t worth living. I’d probably eat homemade bread and sandwiches all day if I could.

27.) I used to spend hours playing The Sims. In The Sims 2, I created the Duggar family, with both parents having the Family aspiration which gives you a better chance of having twins. I think the mom had 2 sets of twins and 7-8 kids total before she finally died of not having her needs met.

28.) My favorite music to listen to in the background is video game instrumentals. I have a Spotify playlist of about 50 hours of video game music and it’s just glorious.

29.) Some of my guilty pleasures include: Buying iced coffee a few times a week, collecting massive amounts of snack bars, and watching videos of people playing scary video games.

30.) I’ve never used a lawn mower in my life. This should probably change at some point.

31.) I don’t know how to swim. If you threw me into a pool, I’d probably drown.

32.) We don’t have any pets, and probably never will because they take so much effort. Plus, we like being able to travel without worrying about pet-sitting.

33.) While I was pregnant with Allison and didn’t yet know she was a girl, two of the only boys names I could think of were James Tiberius and Christopher Paul. Chris P Bacon. Not even kidding. I think we lucked out with getting a girl.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to take advantage of all the birthday specials- including free Starbucks! In the meantime, leave me a comment and tell me something fun about yourself!

Happy birthday! We have a lot in common, except video games, I’m terrible. I meal plan and shop just like you do. Never have had or wanted pets for all the same reasons and LOVE theme parks! I’m a book nerd and I walk about 25 miles a week.
