Favorite Frugal Meijer Finds

In case you haven’t noticed from my weekly shopping trips, I love Meijer. It’s an awesome store with friendly employees, a great selection, and super low prices. Whenever there’s a sale, I always browse through the ad and figure out what I can stock up on.

There are a few items that I tend to gravitate toward every time. Things I can’t live without, that are always good prices. Here is a list of my favorite frugal Meijer finds that usually end up in my cart. Do you agree with any of these?

Soda

I know some of you are brand loyal, but I really like Meijer brand soda. I don’t drink a lot of caffeine anymore and I prefer diet soda; and Meijer has a pretty good selection! Their root beer, orange soda, and grape soda can be both diet and caffeine free, so whenever I have room in the budget I try to buy a case to last us a couple weeks.

Crystal Light

I only buy Crystal Light when it goes on sale for 99 cents. And when it does go on sale, I buy between 5-10 boxes because it’s another favorite drink around here (Yes, we drink a lot of water too!). Otherwise, I can’t justify paying $2.50 for a single box; that’s just crazy.

Picnic supplies

When Meijer has their 10 for $10 sale, a lot of picnic supplies go down to a dollar. Like these straws and sandwich/snack bags. Considering each one retails for around 2 dollars, I try to load up when I can!

The straws come in the bendy form (tall or regular size), or smoothie straws (the nice thick ones). And these bags work really well, too. I’m constantly using them for carrying around snacks.

Baking supplies

My top two baking purchases here are flour and yeast. Meijer seems to be the only place where I can buy both at a cheap price! I tend to use white whole wheat flour a lot because I prefer the taste/texture. And the yeast has gone up in price quite a bit; I remember paying $3.69 for a jar, but it recently jumped up to $4.59. It’s still a good price compared to most places, though.

Salad aisle

Meijer has really good salad dressings! We usually buy the light ranch and the light thousand island; and they go on sale a lot for $1.00, as well as the croutons.

Vinegar is another cheap buy here. Regular price is $2.69 for a gallon, but it goes on sale for $2.39 here. I use vinegar a lot in my laundry, as well as homemade cleaners; I go through a whole gallon maybe every couple of weeks.

Dried goods

I’m a big fan of Meijer’s brown rice! It’s consistently cheaper than anywhere else I go (Besides Dollar Tree, but I’m saving that for next week), and a 2-pound bag will last us awhile.

Dried beans are another good buy here, too. I especially like the lentils, because the bag goes so far for a low price. I love this recipe for Lentil Sloppy Joes!

Whole wheat pasta is a must-have in our house. If you open my pantry, you’ll usually find at least 5-6 boxes of pasta at any given time. We use about a box a week for miscellaneous dinners and it creates a ton of leftovers for us.

Frozen vegetables

If there’s one place I’ll go the rest of my life to buy frozen vegetables, it’s Meijer. Because on their 10 for $10 sale, these bags are a dollar each. And these aren’t the smaller 12-ounce bags like Kroger has on sale for a dollar; these are the full 16-ounce bags and they’re worth every penny! If you’ve seen my shopping trips, you know I buy 8-10 at a time because I love keeping these in the freezer for quick dinner sides.

You can buy bags of broccoli, Winter Blend (broccoli and cauliflower), California Blend (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots), peas, green beans (Cut or French), corn, or mixed veggies (Corn, peas, and carrots). Meijer has a really good selection, so make sure you buy all different kinds!
