9 Things You Should Never Pay Full Price For

Groceries are getting expensive, but you can still save money on the necessities! Here are 9 things you should never pay full price for.

Don’t you hate the fact that groceries seem to be getting more expensive? We need to buy the necessities like toothpaste, deodorant, and shampoo, but some of these items seem to have a hefty price tag. Luckily, most of these go on sale quite often, and it’s all about knowing the lowest price point. While that may differ depending on where you live, I have suggestions below that could help you save big money on your stock-up trips! Here are 9 things you should never pay full price for and can easily stockpile.

Groceries are getting expensive, but you can still save money on the necessities! Here are 9 things you should never pay full price for.

1. Toothpaste

Toothpaste used to be one of those things that I never liked to buy, just because it was so darn expensive! Some tubes are like $3.00, it’s crazy! After paying closer attention, I saw that the slightly smaller tubes typically went on sale for $1.00 so now my price point is $1.00 or less for a tube of toothpaste. Sometimes you can find coupons for the smaller ones and pay $.50 or less! I try to buy at least one or two tubes every time they go on sale so I have a nice stockpile.

2. Deodorant

I don’t have a preference for my deodorant, but John does, so I have different price points for both of us. Kroger usually has the Lady Speed Stick on their Mega Sales every few weeks, and the small ones are typically $.89! I can almost always find $.50 off coupons for Lady Speed Stick, so each stick is only $.39! My price point for my deodorant is $.89 or less.

John likes the Old Spice which is a bit more expensive. I only like to buy his for $1.50 or less, which is after using a coupon. When they go on sale, I buy as many as I can for that price point because Old Spice doesn’t usually get that low!

3. Shampoo

Much like deodorant, I don’t have a preference for shampoo brands. I’ve seen the Suave Professionals go on sale CONSTANTLY, and there’s usually a coupon to go with it! Every time I’ve gotten shampoo these past few months, it’s been on sale at Meijer for 3 for $5, or $1.67 each. I’ve had  a coupon for something like $2 off 2, which would make each bottle $.67 each! The bigger ones ended up being $1.00 each after coupons. So my price point for shampoo is $.67 or less, because that’s just the most common lowest price I’ve seen.

4. Bar soap

John likes the Irish Spring soap which can get expensive. However, Kroger usually has it on sale during their Mega Sales! With a coupon, I’ll only pay $2.49 for an 8-pack, which amounts to about $.31 per bar. For comparison, a 20 pack at Sam’s Club is $8.98, or $.44 per bar!

5. Vitamins/Supplements

I found out after awhile that Meijer and Kroger have a different brand of vitamins on sale just about every week. ONLY buy vitamins when they’re on sale for buy one get one free! Seriously, this happens pretty much every week. You’ll pay an average of $10.00, depending on which vitamin you buy, and you’ll get TWO bottles for that price, which is awesome!

6. Pasta

I only buy whatever’s on sale! Regular price for pasta is like $1.39, which is WAY too much for me. I only buy at $1.00 or less. There’s a few different price points for me, so I’ll break it down.

  • $1.00: I’ll buy only one box if I need a specific type this week.
  • $.89: I’ll buy 2 to stock up my pantry.
  • $.69: Hey, great price! I’ll buy about 4 or 5 for my pantry.
  • $.49: HOLY COW MUST BUY THEM ALL! This is usually at Kroger during their Mega Sales. If it’s the Ronzoni brand, check their brand website because they usually have $1/2 coupons. Yes, this means you can get FREE pasta during those weeks!

7. Coffee creamer

I typically only buy International Delight and Coffee Mate, but I’m open to others if it’s on sale! Regular price for these is $3.29, which is an insane price! I’ll only buy if it’s $2.00 or less for the 32-oz after coupons. I’ve seen it as low as $1.50 after coupons, but that doesn’t happen often!

8. Soda

We do like to splurge on soda every so often in this house! But $1.50 for a 2 liter is not in our budget. Wait until it’s $1.00 or less. Meijer always has 2 liters on their 10 for $10 sales, and I often find coupons for the “Ten” products, like Dr. Pepper Ten, Sunkist Ten, etc. You could end up only paying $.50 per 2 liter if you have these coupons!

9. Floss

Free, free, FREE! Did I mention free? Yeah, I pretty much never pay anything ever for floss. Why? Because they frequently go on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and there’s almost always a $1.00 off coupon, making them FREE! And since you should always floss your teeth every day, definitely get as many as you can!

So do you think you can now start stocking up when prices get this low? Try it and see how quickly you can fill your cabinets! I have enough of the personal care products above to last us 6 months to a year, but will still buy a couple every so often to keep my supply up. Aim for that, and you’ll never have to worry about running out!
