Friends, I have an incredible recipe for you today. You might be tired of me talking about Fall, but I’m just so excited that it’s just about here! I’ve been wanting to make pumpkin everything, especially since I have two cans of it in the cupboard that I bought last year… oops. So I decided to experiment, and I came up with the absolute perfect skinny pumpkin spice frappe. I used something that I’ve never used before but will probably use in my frozen coffee drinks the rest of my life: Instant coffee.
I’ve actually never used instant coffee before. My coffee routine usually consists of a cup of hot coffee right when I wake up (4:00 AM always comes too early), and by mid-day, depending on how the morning’s gone, I need more. Sometimes I’ll make my own at home, but a lot of times, especially when we’re out somewhere, I feel like I need to get a frozen drink at a local coffee shop because hey, we’re already there, and it’s so delicious. But as you may know, at $4.00+ per drink, that can get pretty expensive. So when I heard about the NESCAFÉ® Taster’s Choice® Challenge, I decided to try making my coffees at home all week to see what happened.
First of all, my morning coffee is super easy to make. I just add a heaping teaspoon of the NESCAFÉ® Taster’s Choice® House Blend to my mug of hot water, then my half & half and stevia. It’s well-crafted coffee made simple, and I was pretty impressed with the taste. The House Blend is mildly roasted, so when I wanted a bolder coffee flavor I used the 100% Columbian individual packets. Both are amazing in my morning coffee!
What surprised me was the new glass jar. Most coffee I’ve seen comes in either bags or plastic containers, but NESCAFÉ® Taster’s Choice® switched over to a new glass jar to lock in freshness, and it looks so pretty! I’ll have to find a way to reuse it once it’s empty. The packets are bigger now also, making a full 8-oz cup of coffee.
Okay, let me tell you about this pumpkin spice frappe. When I usually make my frappes, I either brew coffee and freeze them into ice cubes, or cold-brew it and let it sit in the fridge overnight. But what happens when I want my frappe NOW and I don’t have anything pre-made? I never even thought about using instant coffee, but I’m never going back. NESCAFÉ® Taster’s Choice® adds such a distinct flavor to this. And I used almond milk and stevia, both of which are low/zero calorie. According to MyFitnessPal, the recipe below is only 93 calories (if you follow the recipe exactly; yours may vary). I think my recipe is so much better than what I can get in a coffee shop; the canned pumpkin makes it so smooth and creamy and really adds to the subtle flavor of instant coffee. And you can’t forget the whipped cream; it really makes this frappe taste like a pumpkin pie.
After a week of trying the NESCAFÉ® Taster’s Choice® Challenge, I have to say I’m impressed. They use responsibly sourced beans and roast, brew, and flash-freeze their coffee to lock in freshness, and it really shows. I’ll be using instant coffee in my frozen drinks every time now, it’s so easy to use! I highly encourage you to try the challenge yourself. The Nescafe tasters choice sounds like a great way to make the frappe instead of having a whole pot of coffee! Can't wait to try it!!
