Healthy Chocolate Hummus Dip

Who here knows that getting your child to eat healthier foods can be like pulling teeth?

I’m raising my hand so hard over here because this has been a struggle for the past 3 years. Allison refuses every fruit but strawberries, turns her nose up at any vegetable, and won’t even touch “normal” foods, like quesadillas, hamburgers/hot dogs, or even mac and cheese. Do you know a child that doesn’t like mac and cheese?

In-between praying really hard that she’ll eventually grow out of this, I’ve been working to make food as fun as possible- whether it’s through cute food containers/food picks, fun shapes, or hiding vegetables in her favorite foods. I’m just trying to be a good mom and make sure my daughter gets the nutrition she needs!

When Once Again Nut Butter offered to give me a jar of their Organic Amore Almond Spread with Milk Chocolate, I racked my brain trying to think of how to use this to my advantage. And after a quick search of their recipes page, I discovered their Chocolate Hummus and knew this was it.

See, Allison actually likes hummus. When she was little, she ate it with a spoon. Nowadays she’ll just dip a little and not eat much of it, but she’s still willing to have some. So I just knew this recipe would work for her.

Healthy Chocolate Hummus Dip

  • 1 can garbanzo beans, rinsed and skins removed
  • 1/2 cup Once Again Organic Amore Almond Spread with Milk Chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

Start by adding the garbanzo beans and maple syrup to a food processor and blend until it starts looking like hummus.

Add the cocoa powder and almond spread and continue blending until completely mixed. Separate into 6 small bowls and serve with animal crackers, graham crackers, or your favorite fruit!

It was a huge hit with Allison. She even requested a spoon to finish it off, which I consider a huge success.

Once Again Nut Butter is an employee-owned company in New York that’s been in business since 1976. Their nut and seed butters are Certified Gluten-Free, Non-GMO Verified, Certified Organic, and vegan. And their Organic Amore Almond Spread with Milk Chocolate is healthier than other options, which is why I feel good about giving this to Allison as a snack or dessert.
