Being organized is not a strength of mine. It’s something I’m desperately trying to change, especially since I’m feeling like my whole life is in chaos! If you remember back in January, I did a small series on organizing your home, and I worked on the kitchen a bit; threw out old/broken stuff, attempted to organize a little… one of those areas happened to be my tool drawer, which holds things like measuring cups and spoons, cookie cutters, whisks and tongs, and other long spoons that wouldn’t fit in my spoon/spatula drawer. All I did in January was get rid of some duplicates and assigned different corners of the drawer to various items. That worked for about a short minute before we just started throwing everything back in again.
This drawer looks insane! I was so tired of looking at it and trying to find things and make everything fit. I lived with it for a few months, but as time went on, I started thinking of other ways to stay organized. I LOVE containers; I feel like I’d be so happy if I could just keep everything I own in cute little containers, perfectly labeled and everything. One night we were at Big Lots looking for such things, when I came across this:
This was a 9-piece storage set for $9.00, with a suggested use for office supplies, but I stuck them right in my kitchen drawers and here’s what happened.
YES. All of my little tools fit perfectly in these containers! There’s really not much to do with all the miscellaneous stuff on the left, but I got all the important stuff.
The pink one’s my favorite. It’ll hold all the little long tools; the ones on the right are the ones I use most often, so that’ll rotate every once in awhile depending on what I see myself using. For example, my apple corer didn’t see much use at all until like last week when apples started going on sale, so now it’s on the right side for easy access. My blue container holds all of my measuring spoons and other little miscellaneous stuff, like my empty tuna can I use for cutting biscuits. Yep, it’s the frugal life for us.
These little green containers are so cute! They’re perfect for my mini cookie cutters and egg separators. The pink container I actually bought at the dollar store right before heading to Big Lots, but I like that it’s wider and can hold some of my bigger cookie cutters and bag clips.
The extra containers from the set went in the fridge (which I’ll show off at a later date), so for less than $10, I was able to organize my kitchen tool drawer and relieve some of the chaos I felt when opening it! Your setup may look completely different, with your drawer size, the kinds of tools you have in there, etc. But here’s what worked for me, and hopefully it’ll give you some inspiration when you decide to organize your own drawer!
