Weight Loss Update 9/21

Sharing is caring!

I hope you all had a great week! How many of you are still working on a healthier lifestyle? I weighed in on Friday and only lost 0.2 pounds. I’m glad this happened because I have an opportunity to talk about why you shouldn’t get discouraged!

There could be ANY number of reasons why you didn’t lose weight last week, or only lost a little like I did. How much did you lose the week before? My goal is to lose a pound a week, and the previous week I lost 1.6 pounds. When you add the 0.2 pounds I lost this week, it almost evens out! I’m expecting that next week may be a higher number.

You could also be holding a little water weight! It’s not a big deal and happens all the time. Just keep drinking lots of water every day and it’ll even out. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your weight in ounces. So if you weigh 140 pounds, drink 70 ounces of water every day.

Have you been working out at all? It’s very possible that you gained some weight in muscle, which is great! I’ve been doing PiYo workouts 6 days a week since May, and the first couple weeks I didn’t lose any weight, which was really discouraging. But I did notice myself getting stronger, which could possibly mean I gained a little muscle, so I tried not to fret about it too much.

Were you tracking your food correctly? Sometimes we eat a LOT more than we realize. The only time I weigh my food is with chicken breasts so I know I’ve got the right amount, but for everything else I just use measuring cups. Your calorie count may be a little off this way, but you can still lose more weight than you would if you didn’t measure anything at all. And make sure you track everything you eat too, even if you think it’s insignificant!

Like I said last week, I downloaded the Couch to 5k app and started days 1-3, going out right after Allison went to bed. I was never much of  runner, but I really enjoyed being out for a half hour at a time. I had a lot more stamina than I thought, and it was perfect weather! I also realized that I’m gonna need a snack after every run because it really takes a lot out of you. I’m gonna try to make these peanut butter protein bites and stick some in the freezer! Do any of you have favorite post-workout snacks?

Next week is going to be more of the same, and nothing too exciting. I really want to hear how you’re all doing! Remember to add me to your MyFitnessPal and Fitbit accounts so can we encourage each other!

I'm really bad at drinking enough water. I love these updates, super inspiring and motivating!

Jaime, Awesome job on the workouts and eating habits! You are exactly right about the weight loss. The scales are not our friends. Measure yourself and compare the inches instead of the scales. My favorite "snack" after working out is a protein shake. Make sure you are consuming enough calories and protein to allow your muscles to grow and recover appropriately. More muscle = more fit & more calorie burn.

Good job! Sounds like you are on the right track for healthy weight loss. I walk and run for about a half hour in the evening with my dog. It seems to make a difference with keeping my weight down.

I've been trying to lose a little bit of baby weight and get into an exercise routine--it can be SO hard! I'm definitely not great at drinking all of my water, but you're inspiring me to do better this week!

Awesome, good luck! =) I've been waking up really early to workout before Allison gets up. I hate waking up so early, but it's the only way to get stuff done.
