Holy cow, what a week! Thanksgiving was amazing. In fact, everyone was kind enough to leave pretty much all the food at our house so I haven’t had to cook in like 4 days. I was optimistic about being able to cook today, but our fridge is still filled to the brim and I’ve seriously gained 2 pounds in the past week eating all this food, haha. So, take this week’s menu with a grain of salt because we may not even cook most of it.
Because I planned to eat mostly leftover food, the shopping looks a little light in terms of actual dinner stuff. Part of this is because I bought a bag of regular potatoes and sweet potatoes last week as a Thanksgiving backup but never used them, so I had to find ways to incorporate them into our menu. That, and I’ve collected dinners from the past couple weeks that I never made due to having too many leftovers, so this week was kind of a “Buy things you normally don’t have money for” week. Hence the protein powder and chicken that took up half my budget. This is one thing I love about having a small family; we do eat a lot of leftovers, but it keeps our grocery budget down! Here’s what else I bought this week:
2 containers protein powder: $16.49 each, were Buy One Get One Free this week. It’s my favorite kind and I only buy it when it’s BOGO, so much cheaper!
3 bags frozen vegetables: 3 for $5.00
Chicken breasts: $14.99 for a 10-pound bag. $1.49/lb is a great price; I stock up when I can!
2 spaghetti squash: $1.79 each
White chocolate raspberry creamer: $2.19
Half & half: $1.89
3 bags chocolate chips: $1.49 each. These are seasonal and are cheaper than the dark chocolate chips at Sam’s, so I’d better stock up!
Cottage cheese: $1.99
Ground turkey: $1.89
Frozen strawberries: $2.09
String cheese: $2.79
2 dozen eggs: $.89 each
Cream cheese: $.89
Sweet potatoes: $.79
Sour cream: $.99
Baking potatoes: $1.99
Weekly Total: $74.27
Lunch is always leftovers. Items marked with an asterisk (*) were purchased in previous weeks.
Broccoli cheese baked potatoes
Black bean quesadillas*, roasted sweet potatoes
Red beans and rice* (Didn’t make it last week)
Sloppy joes, roasted potatoes, green beans
