$75 Weekly Shopping and Menu 1-23-17

Sharing is caring!

Learning how to eat well on a budget? Here's my family's $75 weekly grocery trip, with a full grocery list and menu! Week of: 1-23-17.

I hope you all had a great weekend! I feel like I totally rocked this week’s shopping trip. Free produce always makes me feel like I did a great job, like you see below with 4 bags of free baby carrots at Meijer. I seem to be the only one that eats them, so they’ll probably last me awhile. =)

I’ve been buying a TON of fruit lately. And frozen vegetables. Part of that is because we’re eating a lot more in general. I still work out 6 days a week and want to fill my calories with mostly nutrient-dense foods, and I eat 3 good-sized meals plus two big snacks every day. And Allison… well, I think she’s gearing up for a growth spurt! Some days, for lunch, she’ll eat an entire peanut butter and jelly sandwich, string cheese, 3-4 strawberries, a small handful of pepperoni, and then one of my energy bites; and sometimes after that, she’ll ask for even more food. Where in the world does she put it??? On the other hand, her dinners usually consist of ketchup and milk (True story), so I guess she makes up for it early in the day.

This is why we raised our grocery budget last year from $60 a week to $75- so we can eat a better variety of foods, and more of it, while still trying to be frugal about it. We’re definitely not clean eaters, and we’re not perfect (Just ignore the 3 bags of chocolate chips I just bought), and I don’t want you to feel like you have to be perfect either. Eat some carrots with one hand and a piece of cake with the other… it’s all about balance!

I am sure you've shared before but can you help me save when shopping for meat? We've been meal prepping lunches each week which means we use a ton of chicken and that can get really expensive!

Yes! We use ground turkey instead of beef because it's a bit cheaper, and I can buy frozen one-pound rolls for $1.89. I never pay more than $1.99 for boneless skinless chicken breasts, and anything $1.69 and under is "Buy all the chicken"! Actually, I just saw that Fresh Thyme has chicken for $1.69 a pound this week. Keep checking the ads when they come out, because they usually put chicken on there.
