I’ve posted a picture of this awhile ago, but never actually announced it: I finally have a command center in the house! A command center is just a central area where we can put any important information, events, coupons, etc., where it’s all in one place. Our “command center” used to be our kitchen table. Mail, receipts, anything you can think of, was just piled up and we had no room to eat. This happens no more! I love my little wall, and there are 3 things, in my mind, that make the perfect command center.
Something to hang receipts/coupons
I’ve lost count of the number of times that John’s asked me for a grocery receipt and I go blank because I can’t remember where I put it. They usually go either in my pocket (that gets washed), on the kitchen table (where it gets lost/covered with food), or on my nightstand (where it gets thrown away because I forget we still need it). We just attached clothespins to the wall and one is dedicated solely to grocery receipts. Problem solved!
We also put up two small cork boards, which we bought at Wal Mart, for any other important info, like coupons or this handy guide to King’s Island where we plan to spend most of our summer. Basically, if we think we’ll need it soon, it goes on the cork board.
Something to write on
If I quickly need to remember something and my phone isn’t nearby, I can just easily write it down on our whiteboard. Things to add to the grocery list, a to-do list for the day, or even little silly stuff. =) Bigger families can benefit from having a central whiteboard to go to for important info, as well as couples who have different work schedules and don’t have much time to see each other.
Seriously, what good is a command center if it doesn’t look pretty? We bought the letters at a church garage sale a couple years ago and they were collecting dust in the garage. John lovingly painted them and hung them up for me. We also bought some washi tape to go on the clothespins and cork boards. We ended up having to staple the tape to the cork boards though, because it wouldn’t stick. It’s not grand by any means, but if you have a creative side, you can search Pinterest for plenty of ideas!
If you need more organization in your life, I highly recommend setting up a command center of some sort in your home. Since putting it up, it’s made my life so much easier knowing where the important stuff is. If you already have one, post some pictures below! I’d love to get more ideas.
