New Backyard Toy!

Allison’s very excited to say that she has a new toy in the backyard: a swingset! It was brought over Friday by my dad’s co-worker, who was looking to get rid of it. We gladly accepted, and now Allison has a great outdoor toy.

We’d been going to the park about twice a week for awhile, because Allie LOVES the swings. Granted, they’re the baby ones that she can sit in without falling out, but she’ll sit there forever. John actually timed her once; they spent 45 minutes out of the hour that they were there, just playing on the swings. The ones in our backyard are much higher up, and don’t have the little baby seat, and she hasn’t quite wanted to sit in them yet. But boy, does she love that slide!

Up and down, up and down, climb up the actual slide, try to go down headfirst… no Allison, you can’t carry the big stick up there with you, you’ll poke your eye out.

It even has a little merry-go-round that up to 3 kids can sit on and just swing around in circles. She hasn’t been able to get on it yet because that was where we cemented the swingset into the ground, but she keeps patiently asking to play on it.

Oh my gosh, it has been so hot the past few days. It’s been about 90 degrees every day, and I can’t tolerate hot weather pretty much at all, so hopefully I’ll be able to take her out in the mornings before it gets blisteringly hot. She doesn’t go outside much, which is totally my fault. I’m trying not to let my dislike of hot weather deter her from loving the outdoors, but it’s SO HARD. Here’s hoping it starts cooling off soon! I can dream, right?

Isn't it fun how little kids enjoy the simplest things? I used to have one of those Little Tykes playsets that I kept in the family room so my son could play and be active even in the cold winter months. And he would spend HOURS on that thing. Then when he got bored with it, I'd flip it up and other way and he'd find whole new ways to play on it. Now at 18, he's a little harder to please, so I miss those days!
