Birthday Weekend Fun!

This weekend was AMAZING. I wasn’t looking forward to turning 30, but this whole weekend made the transition a lot easier. It started Saturday morning when I woke up super early (like 4:30 early) and walked into the kitchen to find John making this:

My absolute favorite: Cookie cake! He told me he had made the cookie dough a few days earlier, and kept getting mad because I would always come home earlier than expected so he couldn’t make the cake. He stuffed the dough in the back of the fridge hoping I wouldn’t see it… and it worked. It looked beautiful and tasted delicious. He used this recipe, in case any of you wanted to try it for yourselves!

Sunday morning we left for Kings Island. My parents gave us Gold Passes for Christmas last year, which gives us free access to the park and free parking, and it’s only less than an hour away, so we totally plan on going at least once a week this summer. Allison was super excited; last year when we went, back in October, she didn’t want to ride anything except the merry-go-round, and even then she just wanted to sit in the carriage, not on a horse. A lot can happen in 6+ months, though; she suddenly wanted to ride everything and had a grand old time!

This was her first time riding on the horse, and when she told me she wanted to ride it, I was shocked. She wouldn’t even ride the little horse at Meijer, and now suddenly she’s all grown up and wants to be like the big kids.

This picture was actually from the last time we went, but this was the first ride Allison wanted to get on. It goes around in a circle, and then bounces up and down. The first time we got on it, Allie wouldn’t stop giggling, and as soon as we exited, she reached through the bars and said, “I want to get on it again!”

There were a few characters walking around the park, and while usually she’s scared of them, Allison walked right up to Lucy and gave her a big hug. Wouldn’t go anywhere near Snoopy, though.

My parents, my sister, and her boyfriend came with us this time, so my parents took Allison for awhile while we got on some rides ourselves. One thing I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older is that my stomach just can’t handle most things anymore. For goodness sake, I feel nauseous if I swing for too long. We did one roller coaster, which was awesome, but about halfway through I felt the sickness coming. And right after that, we thought it’d be a good idea to go on a Scrambler-like ride, where it goes around in circles and then flies through the air at the same time. I begged for death. When the ride finally stopped, I was sweating, had the shakes, and I felt my face go pale. I couldn’t even speak; I just slowly walked out and immediately sat on a bench. It’s so embarrassing; but at that point, I was pretty much done with the fast rides.

After that was lunch! We have the All-Season dining, which means we can eat lunch and dinner there for free, 4 hours apart. At almost $15 per meal EACH, it’s an incredibly great deal and you get so much food. We share ours with Allison because she barely eats anyway; lunch was some of my Chow Mein noodles and one of John’s breadsticks. Hey, who said amusement park food was healthy? =)

Petting zoo! It opened up for the season the day before, and Allie was excited to see the animals again. There were llamas, alpacas, mini donkeys/horses, goats, a cow… she managed to pet a few, although backed away pretty quickly when their heads got too close.

This is pretty much my favorite part about King’s Island: Their blueberry ice cream. It comes in a huge bowl and is just perfect in every way. I’m drooling just thinking about it again.

The poor thing was just about done at this point. Having fun is certainly hard work! John and my sister wandered off to ride another roller coaster, and Allie and I rode the BIG carousel this time, where she rode another horse. She’s getting bigger and braver every minute.

One of her favorite rides is the big train that goes around the park and takes you to the waterpark, too. We didn’t go there this time, but soon. Very soon.

Soon after that was dinnertime (already??), and Allison enjoyed a nutritious dinner of…. french fries and oyster crackers. Oh well. The area where we ate had a song-and-dance show going on, so she enjoyed that while she ate. We left right afterward, after 8 hours of nonstop fun. I’m not even sure if she fell asleep on the way home, but she went straight to bed when we got home with no fuss, so it was a successful day! I’m pretty sure we’ll be doing this again next week, and every week the rest of the summer. Do any of you have season passes to your local amusement park?

Looks like you guys had a ton of fun! I love her pink tennis shoes (adorable!). How sweet of your husband to make you the cookie cake! I'm a bit jealous there; my husband burns frozen peas and I don't think he would EVER bake anything bahahaha.

Again, Happy Birthday!!!!
