Sharing is caring!

Happy 1 Year Blogiversary! www.nogettingoffthistrain.com

Happy anniversary to No Getting Off This Train! One year ago today, I took the plunge and signed up for a year of hosting through Blogelina. I paid $1.00, and her website set up my entire blog for me, ready to start! I have come SUCH a long way since then, and I wanted to share my past year of blogging with you all, along with my stats up until now. Stick around till the end, because I’m giving away a $25.00 Starbucks gift card to one lucky winner!

Why I Started

Happy 1 Year Blogiversary! www.nogettingoffthistrain.com

I had become pretty good at couponing and saving money on groceries each week, and a lot of my friends kept asking me for secrets and tips. I figured starting a blog of some sort would be a good central place to keep all of my grocery tips, so I originally signed up with Blogger to get a free blog. My first posts were the Couponing101 series, and I did one post a week. I then realized I wanted more, and found Blogelina’s $1.00 WordPress setup deal and just went for it! (Actually, I just looked and now it’s $7.00 but she gives you a Premium Wordpess theme- totally worth it!)

My original intent was to post grocery deals every week for Kroger and Meijer, along with money-saving tips. This went on for a few months until I realized I just wasn’t into the store deals anymore, and branched off into frugal living/parenting/lifestyle/healthy living. I’m now posting 5 days a week instead of 7, which is helping my sanity and giving me more time to focus on important parts of my blog.

Also, one part of me just wanted to make an income. I stay home with Allison and living on one income can be tough. I wanted something I could do from home, that could make just a little bit of money to spend on fun stuff! I’d like to be able to take Allison out for lunch sometimes, or get myself a coffee when we inevitably head into the Kroger that has a Starbucks. I wasn’t looking to make a full-time income from this, although it’d be nice, but I want to feel like I’m contributing financially to this household.

Blog Stats

My goal for the end of my first year was to earn enough money through this blog to at least pay for the hosting each month. How far have I gotten? Let’s find out!

One of the first things I did was install Google Adsense, which is why you see ads on the top and sides of the blog. I make a small amount through pageviews plus clicks of the ads; it’s not spectacular, but it’s a good source of passive income! Now before I show you the numbers, I need to say that this all depends on blog traffic. If I don’t have a lot of traffic, I won’t make an income! I’ve tried to work constantly to both bring you wonderful content, and promote it enough to bring in lots of readers. Now, here’s what the first 2 months looked like.

Those are for the entire month. Pretty low, but as you can see, my page views were low, too. Let’s look at last month’s stats:

Yeah, that’s a HUGE difference. Needless to say, I can pay for my hosting every month now! I just want to say thank you to everyone who visits my blog every day, who shares my page and content, and for supporting me. Without you, I’m basically just rambling at a wall. In addition to my income, here’s my current stats as of the end of February 2016:

follower stats

Not too bad for my first year! Pinterest is my main source of traffic and I get at least a few people following me every day, so that really adds up.

What’s Next?

I want to see my blog grow tremendously! I want to work with brands to showcase the products I think you all will enjoy. I also want to write a book; it was part of my goals for this year, and I haven’t done much with it. I just need to find time and motivation, but I just know that what I want to publish is going to help a LOT of people.

I wish I knew more about good price points -- like on diapers, wipes and paper goods. What's actually a good deal?

I want to know how to save money while being in debt. I have private health insurance and owe over $5,000 in medical bills from 2015 and racked up more medical bills in 2016.
