If you’re anything like me, coffee is life. A daily morning coffee is a necessity, and a Starbucks Frappuccino is a delicious luxury.
However, with great taste comes a great price; and most of us just can’t afford to pay $4.00 once or twice a week. That’s why I had to get creative and figure out how to get free Starbucks coffee. Here’s how you, too, can get yourself some free Starbucks: its name is Shopkick.
I found this free Shopkick app a couple years ago and it’s got me hooked. You earn points, called Kicks, both by just walking into designated stores, and then scanning specific items. There are usually new items every week or two, so I always check back to see what I can scan.
In the picture above, you’ll see a snippet of the stores available in my area. The left number is the amount of Walk-In Kicks you get that day; to get them, you simply walk in the store!
The sensor is somewhere in the speakers of the store, so if you can’t get the Kicks right away, stand under where the music is playing and it should work!
With some stores, like my local Wal Mart, I can actually drive past the entrance with the app open and get my Walk-In Kicks that way; hurray for efficiency!
Also, some days Shopkick will announce that they’ll give you anywhere between 100-200 Walk-In Kicks at certain stores! Sometimes it’ll be at a few stores that are close to each other, like at the mall. We’ll walk into American Eagle, Macy’s, and Old Navy and get like 500 Kicks just for walking around, it’s awesome.
Here’s an example of what you can scan to earn Kicks. As you can see, some of the products aren’t worth a lot of Kicks, but they do add up. And there are promotions sometimes where you’ll get an extra 50 Kicks or so for scanning all the items in that promotion; you just have to keep watching the app each week!
I’ve seen the amount of Kicks per item range between 10 and 75. See the pink “150 Kicks” next to the bottles of alcohol? Those are “Kickbate” Kicks, where you’ll receive the Kicks if you actually purchase the item and scan the receipt, like the Ibotta app.
The one thing that sucks about it is when you’re on the screen that shows how many Kicks you get for scans at a store, those Kickbate Kicks are included in that, so it’s misleading if you don’t plan to purchase anything. However, it’s easy to get 100-200 Kicks each time you shop!
All you have to do is click on the item in the app that you want to scan, then match up the barcode in the box on your camera. If it’s the correct item, you’ll get the Kicks!
Now for the good stuff: the rewards! Redeeming 1,250 Kicks will get you a $5.00 gift card, and there are tons of stores to choose from; my top two are Starbucks and Target. My favorite part is that I can transfer the funds from my redeemed Starbucks gift card over to the gift card I always use, for easier access.
Shopkick also rewards you for referring people to the app! For every friend you refer that downloads the app, you get 500 Kicks. That’s almost halfway to a Starbucks gift card!
I figure, since I’m at the store anyway, I might as well use the app and earn free gift cards while I’m shopping! It’s the easiest way for me to get my Starbucks for free every month, and Starbucks makes me happy, so why not? Download the app now and be on your way to get your own free Starbucks!
