Felt Christmas Tree for Toddlers

I have another little felt craft for you today! My last felt post contained silly faces, pizza, and cupcakes/ice cream. Today I’m in the holiday spirit and am giving you a great idea for toddlers- a felt Christmas tree! I’ve seen many different versions of this on Pinterest- including huge trees that you can hang on the wall for your toddler to play with, and fancy-looking felt presents that require a glue gun for all the pieces… honestly, I don’t have time for that! My Christmas tree is simple and fun enough to keep Allison’s attention.

Here’s what you need:

  • A 12×18 inch piece of green felt (The kind I got at Hobby Lobby has kind of a firmness to it, which could be perfect for hanging on the wall if you choose.)
  • Miscellaneous felt colors for ornaments
  • Scissors

To keep things more even, I folded the green piece of felt in half and traced my Christmas tree with pencil first, then cut very carefully. Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Next I just followed Allison’s requests for ornaments! She wanted a yellow star for the top- only the top, mind you- and pink candy canes. I chose red hearts and blue circles to complete the ornaments, and if you want to get fancy, you can cut out many simple shapes, like angels, or simple colored squares for the presents. I may do the presents soon, after I actually wrap our presents, to make her feel like she’s helping.

It’s a simple and cheap craft for the Christmas season, and fun for both toddlers and parents as they come up with combinations for their tree. Have you done anything like this before? Be sure to share in the comments, I love getting new ideas!
