I hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving yesterday! We have leftovers out the wazoo, as expected, so I’ll be happily munching on food all the rest of this weekend. Besides Black Friday shopping (am I crazy?), the next couple days will be pretty low-key as we recover from food comas.
It’s my favorite time- Breakfast With Bacon! Here’s what’s been going on in the Bacon household this month, with pictures and backstories and sneak peeks into our life:
1.) We rearranged Allison’s room last week! She has a bed from IKEA that can be made bigger as she grows, and it was time to pull it out to the middle setting. We took out the glider that’s been in there since she was born and replaced it with those stuffed animal hammocks. Now we have a spot for ALL of them, as opposed to just throwing most of them on the couch. She even has a little work desk next to her bed and she’s so excited for “quiet work time”, whatever that means.
2.) I can’t get over how cute she is, with that ranch face. We both came down with a cold last week, and after being stuck inside for a few days, I treated her to lunch. We were all set to go to Chick-Fil-A; I had been talking about it all morning, and as soon as I backed out of the driveway, Allison said, “Nope, I want McDonalds.” So McDonalds it was! Do you have their app? I always use it when we go; that day I was able to get a free medium Iced Caramel Macchiato!
3.) I’m kind of a huge Starbucks fan; so when I saw this cart full of clearance stuff at Kroger, I freaked out and took a picture for John because I want a Starbucks tumbler for Christmas. I didn’t realize this picture looked like I was buying all of it.
4.) I really thought I had a breakthrough this night. We had grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner, and I found a recipe that includes butternut squash puree mixed in with the shredded cheese for the sandwich. Thinking Allison wouldn’t notice, I made them and presented them to her. She took a few bites and seemed to like it, and then promptly spit it out. How in the world can I get my child to like new things???
5.) On a slightly warmer day this month, we went to the park with Grandpa and we convinced her to get on the big girl swings. She had been using the baby swings… you know, the ones with the backsides. She’s always been afraid to swing on these, but after a few minutes, she was a pro! I swear, it’s like age 4 is a totally new experience.
6.) “Daddy, let me ask you all these questions about everything you’re doing!” Allison’s become very curious and always wants to help. Whenever John works on a project, she’s right there asking questions and grabbing tools for him. It’s so cute to watch; she’s definitely a Daddy’s girl.
7.) After making my Hot Chocolate Station, I’ve been addicted to adding that hot chocolate mix to my afternoon coffee. Marshmallows are sometimes optional. Who can resist a hot mocha as an afternoon pick-me-up?
8.) I have to say, Wendy’s is the best at kids toys. Hands down. We visited there one day for lunch and inside Allison’s kids meal was one piece of a box city, basically. The set has 6 buildings, from a Superhero Store to a Video Game Arcade, and you put the 4 walls together to make the store. It’s huge for the imagination; and when we walked up to the counter to buy more, they just gave us the other two they had! I’m a Wendy’s fan for life now; and this is coming from someone who worked at McDonalds for almost 10 years.
9.) We have a weekly ritual that happens on one of her school days. One morning each week, we visit our local Kroger that just happens to have a Starbucks inside. She gets in the race car cart, I push her around and look at the clearance sections, and we end our trip with a Starbucks cake pop and a Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew for me. Then we’ll come home and watch movies until lunchtime. It’s such a simple thing, but we totally bond over it; and thanks to Swagbucks, I get free Starbucks gift cards so I don’t even have to pay for our treats!
Holiday status: Pumped up and overwhelmed! Our December weekends are officially booked; Trans-Siberian Orchestra the first weekend, family Christmases the next two weekends, and driving to Florida the weekend after that. With all the early Christmas celebrations, I pretty much have to get all my shopping done Black Friday to stay on top of things. Beast Mode has been activated!
Favorite snack: Not to sound like a health nut, but right now it’s carrot sticks and peanut butter. I never liked eating vegetables for a snack, but I’ve been trying to pay more attention to my nutrition because of half marathon training; and sometimes I just need some extra veggies in my life. I’m hoping that some of this will rub off on Allison and she’ll be more willing to try new foods!
What I’m thankful for this year: I don’t talk about my income much on this blog because it’s just not what I’m about. However, I need to throw this out there because of how awesome it is.
At the beginning of this year, I made it my goal to start earning enough income to put Allison through private school when the time comes. I wasn’t sure how it would happen; I made plans of what I thought would happen, but all of that fell through. I started Elite Blog Academy, and grew my traffic tremendously- to the point where I was able to get into a new ad network, Mediavine. That, paired with affiliate links, has now given me the opportunity to keep this blog alive to continue to help you, AND save money for Allison’s private school!
I’ve been so blessed in this past year, and I want to thank you for sticking with me. Every time you click a link to make a purchase, or even read each post I publish, you help me provide for my family at no extra cost to you. So thank you so much for your support!
That’s it for this month. I can’t wait to see what December brings! Happy shopping this weekend!
