May has almost come to an end! It’s been awesome, with celebrating two birthdays (Mine and John’s), Mother’s Day, and now a vacation to North Carolina this weekend. We’re officially kicking off Summer vacation, and I’m excited for all the adventures we’ll go on this season! I expect there to be lots of water play, tanned skin, running outside, and iced coffee.
This month’s Breakfast With Bacon is full of my favorites- food and doing fun stuff outside. Here’s what’s been going on in our world this month:
1.) We’ve been waiting for the perfect weather to be able to take a hike! Last week we went with her grandpa for a couple hours in the morning, before it was supposed to storm again. We were out there for almost 2 hours, and Allison didn’t start complaining till the last 30 minutes so that’s a plus! We ended with a picnic lunch right outside.
2.) I made the mistake of telling her about tight-rope walking and she immediately wanted to watch some videos about it. I ended up choosing Nik Walenda and his Niagara Falls walk, and it turned into a Youtube fest of more and more. This is what she wanted to do afterward.
3.) Mother’s Day selfie! It wasn’t until right after this picture was taken that I realized I wore the exact same shirt on Mother’s Day last year. I’m not very creative, I guess.
4.) Just one of the many delicious items we experienced at a food truck rally right after church on Mother’s Day. I got BBQ pulled pork nachos, which were AMAZING. John got a buffalo mac and cheese, which is basically the way to our hearts. And for dessert, some local ice cream. I’ve never realized how awesome food trucks are, and now I’m hooked.
5.) This child is so girly, it’s crazy. Always wanting to dress up. This day she wanted me to take a series of pictures of her posing, and this was one of the best.
6.) The face of someone who got a new height wristband at Kings Island. At 42 inches, she can ride two more rides, which she took full advantage of. Including one that spins around and goes up and down at the same time; small children may be able to handle the spinning rides, but not this mom!
7.) Speaking of Kings Island, I cannot get over this salad. It’s part of their food plan, and includes two crispy chicken strips and garlic toast. There’s a huge bed of lettuce underneath there, and has cheese, bacon bits, red onion, jalapenos, and tomatoes. It may not surprise you to know that I devour the entire salad. I like that amusement parks are starting to include healthier options for food!
8.) The weather here in Ohio basically went from Winter to Summer in the span of a week. We had a couple days of low 70s, and then it hit mid-80s immediately after. On one of the nicer days, we were able to go into the backyard and play with her long-untouched swing set!
9.) Homemade pizza night! I bought the crust from Entenmann’s Bakery Outlet for 50 cents; and while John was out for the night, Allison and I made our own pizzas. She was so excited to make it… and then when it was time to eat, she ate the smallest piece imaginable and said she didn’t really like it. She’s branching out though, which I’m so proud of! Just over the weekend, she ate a hot dog. A full hot dog, not just the bun. That’s huge for us!
Preschool status: Out for the summer! Monday was her last day, and I’m left wondering where the time has gone. It’s been nice having the afternoons to clean and do shopping, but it’ll be fun having Allison home and going on more adventures. And in the fall, she’ll be going 5 days a week instead of 3, in the morning instead of the afternoon. We’re both pretty excited about this.
Favorite drink: Cold brew coffee made with chocolate milk. I can’t even tell you how awesome this is; it just makes me so happy in the mornings to be able to sip on something so cold and sweet. My second favorite drink, I suppose, is diet root beer. I haven’t been a big soda drinker in awhile; but with ditching caffeine, I feel like I just need something to keep me happy in the afternoons. A 12-pack of soda will last us about 2 weeks; so one every other day for me isn’t too bad.
Currently watching: Grey’s Anatomy, and mostly on my runs at the gym. I actually look forward to my long runs (8-10 miles) on Saturday mornings because I can hit the treadmill, eat peanut butter M&Ms and binge watch Grey’s Anatomy. It’s my me time, and I thoroughly enjoy it! I’m on season 12 on Netflix, picking it back up after not watching for awhile. And it’s like seeing an old friend again; I can’t get enough of this show!
