Hello, Spring! You’re finally here, even though it’s still snowing here and there. I’m totally excited for the warmer weather that should be coming soon; it means going to the park, running outside, and Kings Island (Opening April 13th!).
My month has consisted of early morning runs (3:30 is too early for any sane person to wake up!), obsessively playing Animal Crossing with Allison, and my insane month-long pantry challenge (Which ends tomorrow, YES!). Here is March’s edition of Breakfast With Bacon, where I share glimpses of what’s been going on in our lives the past month:
1.) This was technically back in February, but there was like one great day where the temperature was in the 60s. We walked down to the park where Allison insisted she get on the big swings. In true mom fashion, I didn’t let her go very high; but she did a great job holding on, and is working really hard on swinging her legs back and forth.
2.) Oh my goodness, IHOP is so amazing. Allison got this Funny Face Pancake; it was a huge chocolate chocolate chip pancake with a whipped cream face and extra chocolate chips sprinkled on top. She ate about 80% of that thing, as well as the yogurt. I’m not even sure how we got her to go to bed that night.
3.) I learned how to hack the treadmills at Planet Fitness. Am I a bad person? I just wanted to run for longer than an hour without the treadmill going into Cooldown Mode. Luckily, a Youtube video showed me how to get into the Manager settings to turn on Marathon Mode, which apparently has no time limit. (Edit: It has a 99 minute time limit instead of only 60 minutes, boo.) For those that were wondering, I did ask like 3 employees how to keep the treadmill from stopping after an hour; but nobody had a clue.
4.) Speaking of running, I made a pact with myself that I can only eat a donut after a long run, or after a race. So a few Saturdays ago, I treated Allison to a local donut shop! I got a chocolate-stuffed yeast donut, and Allison got a Blue’s Clues Donut- a blueberry cake donut with blue icing. As it turns out, I much prefer cake donuts while she prefers yeast donuts; and we kept trading bites. I’m definitely getting that Blue’s Clues donut next time!
5.) This is definitely proper attire for shopping at Kohl’s. I’ve learned to just go with it and let her do her own thing.
6.) John and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary on the 5th! We went to Pizza Hut with Allison; not fancy, but darn good. Pizza is Allison’s main food group, and I’m hopelessly addicted to Pizza Hut, so it was a given. Thankfully we don’t do this often!
7.) This is exactly what what it looks like. Her stuffed animal, Abby, has her own lunch. When Allison requested that Abby have her own plate of food, I kind of laughed and just brought out an empty plate. The glare she gave me made me realize she was actually serious. “Abby needs FOOD ON HER PLATE! And nothing messy!” So… I gave her peanuts, raisins, and chickpea snacks. Which Allison happily fed to Abby, and then “helped” Abby eat the rest of it.
8.) Allison’s been getting more creative recently, and she loves the shape wall at the children’s museum. She’ll just grab some shapes and start creating, and will be so proud of her creation. Me? I attempted an 8-bit Mario. #nerd
9.) Another post-run treat. We went to Second Street Market on St. Patrick’s Day; it’s a local inside Farmer’s Market and food court. I was craving bread like crazy, so we stopped at one of the bakeries and saw giant pretzels. The small one? As big as my head. I probably could have eaten the whole thing by myself, but shared it with Allison, who is also a carboholic. And I washed it down with an iced mocha, of course. Because coffee.
Half Marathon status: T-minus 9 days and counting! I’m pretty confident I can do this, but I’ve been having problems with bruised and blistering toes. I’m trying to figure out where the problem is coming from; whether it’s how my shoes are laced, or even the shoes themselves. Hopefully I can get that problem settled!
Favorite food: Soft pretzels. I don’t know what it is about them right now, but I’m obsessed. I don’t even need cheese with them, although I wouldn’t turn it down! After the big one from St. Patrick’s Day, I also got a soft cinnamon pretzel at the arena where we saw Gabriel Iglesias (FLUFFY!) last week. You can pry those carbs from my cold, dead fingers!
Currently reading: The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. I just finished the original 4-part The Vampire Diaries series (I liked it before it was made into the not-like-the-book-at-all TV series); and now I’m re-reading the His Dark Materials series. I say “reading”, but really it’s listening to audiobooks via Overdrive. Anyone have suggestions for another good fantasy series after I finish this?
Currently loving: My new phone! I just upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S5 to the S7 Edge. My old phone had 16 GB of space and this one has 32 GB, and holy cow. I’m so excited to have all the apps I want again; especially Overdrive. I no longer have to lug my tablet to the gym to listen to books while I run!
