I feel like it’s been awhile since I’ve done a Breakfast with Bacon post! I didn’t do one for December because we were in Florida on vacation (which was amazing, by the way). This time I’ll try to condense two month’s worth of events into one post, to give you the highlights of our life. Here’s what’s been going on in the Bacon household:
1.) Going back to Christmas time- We made our first gingerbread house! I found a Mickey and Minnie one at Big Lots and knew Allison would enjoy it. I think she liked eating the candy more than she liked decorating, but at least we crossed this off our list.
2.) Allison got a 2DS for her birthday, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf to go with it. She’s gotten really good at running around, collecting fruit, digging up fossils, and she even caught her first fish recently! She’s becoming quite a gamer.
3.) This was my view on Christmas Eve, in Florida. Almost 80 degrees, sunny… it was just perfect. I went out for my first beach run while John and Allison played in the water, and it was glorious. Then we had to come back home after a week, to a snowy and cold Ohio. I definitely preferred Florida!
4.) Can you guess where this food is from? …Would you believe McDonalds!? While we were in Florida, we took a trip to Orlando and visit America’s largest McDonalds. It was two stories (the top story being the Playland and a huge arcade), and sold the typical McDonalds food as well as pasta and pizza dishes. This was pasta with marinara sauce and all the vegetables they had, as well as what looked like a thin pizza crust as a bread side. It wasn’t too bad! They also had a dessert counter, where John got a huge piece of chocolate peanut butter cake, and Allison got an ice cream cone with actual hard ice cream, not soft serve. I wouldn’t go there every day, but it was a cool experience!
5.) My inner nerd is so happy right now. John’s Christmas gift to me was a hoodie starring my favorite character Vivi, from Final Fantasy IX. I wear it with pride, and surprisingly I’ve had people recognize Vivi. If you ever want to make me happy, just give me something video game related. =)
6.) Sundays are for meal prep! The best thing I can do to save my sanity is chop and slice all produce at the beginning of the week. If I don’t, I end up leaving some of it in the back of the fridge and forgetting about it. This way, everything is done; and I save time and money by taking about an hour every Sunday to do this.
7.) Recently we’ve been stuck inside due to all the snow Ohio got. Since there was no reason to get out, we’ve stayed home and got cabin fever. On our snow days list included making snow cream (Which Allison didn’t like) and cutting out felt hot chocolate pieces. She loves being creative and coming up with her own combinations.
8.) Our newest obsession is LEGO. Allison got LEGOs for her birthday, Christmas… she’s gotten quite a collection just in the past few months! Her favorite right now is the LEGO Friends, and recently we built a small grocery store that you see above. It included food stands (With pet treats and dog bones), a bakery counter, a deli counter, and a cash register!
9.) This child knows how to cheese the camera. She colored this superhero mask at church last week and insisted she was Wonder Woman. I tried to convince her that Wonder Woman can see really far because she eats her carrots, and it almost worked until Allison realized she had to actually EAT the carrots for it to take effect.
Half Marathon Training: Officially starting next week! I took a couple weeks off running and should hopefully get to work on Monday. My first half of 2018 (and ever) is April 8th, and it seems so far yet so close. The goal for this one is just to finish; so far the longest run I’ve done is 10 miles and I’m super confident I can do the last 3.1!
Currently listening to: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I’ve gotten into listening to audiobooks again because I decided I simply don’t have time to just sit down and read. I can listen to it while I run; in the early mornings before Allison wakes up; and in the afternoon while she’s at school. I may be able to get through one book a week doing this!
Currently playing: Final Fantasy XIII… again. I started out strong last year and played the game at least one night a week, but then life happened. I’ve picked it up again and now hopefully I can finally finish it so I can start on a new game!
Currently working on: De-cluttering the house. That seems to be a common theme this month, as a lot of my friends are doing the same thing! I took a carload to Goodwill a couple weeks ago and condensed Allison’s craft supplies into a smaller container with drawers. My next project is the office; it’s slowly looking better but I know I can do more. I’ll try to take pictures!
That’s about it for this month. Has anything interesting been happening in your life lately?
