We made it to the end of January! I feel like I always talk about how fast the months go by, but this month? It’s been super slow and I don’t know why. Part of it might be because I plan out my week in advance, with a rough outline of what I want to do every day, and maybe it’s just really slow because I’m trying to accomplish everything. It’s not quite working as well as I’d hoped, so maybe February will be better. Here’s what’s been going on in our lives this month!
1.) Our New Year’s treat was ice cream at Coldstone Creamery, using part of the gift card I got John for Christmas. I haven’t been there in forever, and probably for good reason; it’s so easy to just grab the largest bowl and dig in! It was Allison’s first time, and she ate a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream with sprinkles.
2.) Lunch dates are always fun, although it’s hit-or-miss whether Allison will even eat. Her tastes are… refined, to say the least. I saw that Panera offered PB&J for kids, and totally went with that. The sandwich ended up being a thin layer of peanut butter with a jar-ful of jelly, haha. She ate about half of it and one bite of her yogurt. I had to “help” her finish her sandwich; holy cow, their bread is amazing, though.
3.) I’m seeing a food theme this month. Allison got this table for Christmas and every so often asks to eat breakfast there. It’s a super cute table and is awesome for eating snacks at, too. She’ll end up taking it back to my parents’ house when she spends the night again… yes, again. She did once over Christmas break and loved it, and we’re happy to let her!
4.) A few weeks ago, John told me he was out of snacks. I immediately went to add granola bars to the grocery list when I stopped to think: I haven’t attempted homemade ones in awhile, why don’t I try it again? Mine have always ended up burnt and crumbly, and not really bar-like. Well, these turned out amazing. I used applesauce, which helped hold everything together, and they’re seriously addicting. I’ll be adding a recipe soon!
5.) We go to the local children’s museum once a week to let Allison run around, and I’ve never gotten her to wear the vet’s jacket until this day. She was just so happy to be taking care of the stuffed animals, and keeps telling me she wants to be a doctor.
6.) Our church has started hosting a storytime a couple times a month, which includes lots of free play, crafts, a snack, and a story. We went to the first one and it was a huge hit! The shaving cream was particularly popular, and also impossible to clean off, haha.
7.) We were parked outside Dollar Tree to take pictures (The things bloggers have to do…), and Allison kept saying, “Take my picture Mommy, take my picture!” She’s becoming quite a bit of a camera hog.
8.) My father-in-law came back from China with chopsticks and I couldn’t wait to use them. It just so happened that we were having Egg Roll in a Bowl for dinner that week, and I attempted it with only a small success. Rice is extremely hard to pick up, guys. But at least the grapes were easy to pick up!
9.) Allison likes putting on little shows for her stuffed animals. Whether it’s just dress-up (AKA putting on a hat), or even making a classroom, there’s just something about her putting her friends on all her chairs that’s just adorable.
Currently playing: Final Fantasy 13. I’ve been good at sticking to my goal of playing a video game one hour a week, even if I’m failing at other goals. =) It’s usually been on Thursday nights, and there’s something just soul-refreshing about sitting down and watching that title screen. I may not be able to do 5-hour sessions anymore, but being able to do at least an hour at a time is good enough for me.
Current weather: Rainy. I swear, this winter has been either freezing, or warm and wet. There’s been almost no chance to get outside, and it’s driving me crazy.
Currently eating: Bread, all day and every day. I kind of have an obsession with Entenmann’s bread outlet, and right now we have 3 different loaves of bread on the counter because her royal highness doesn’t like the wheat bread. She likes the “white soft bread”, AKA Sara Lee Artesano.
Currently watching: Whatever Allison wants to watch during movie time; I haven’t gotten around to watching anything in the evenings. Her current obsessions are The Secret Life of Pets, Zootopia, and those darn Barbie movies she likes to get at the library.
Health status: Mostly healthy! Allison came down with a cough on Sunday that hasn’t quite gone away. Wednesday we ended up staying home because it was pretty bad, to the point of throwing up in my lap because of a particularly long coughing fit. I had just finished saying that she hasn’t really gotten sick at all this Winter, and if she’s just now starting to feel yucky, I think we’ve done pretty good!
That’s it for this month! Anything interesting going on in your lives right now?
