I was going to say something about how short February seems, but considering it IS the shortest month, I now understand why.
February seems to be that awkward time where you REALLY want spring and you start to get little tastes of it, but then you get a snowstorm that blows away all your dreams of warm weather. I SO want to start running again, but I’m a wimp that hates going out in cold weather. Never mind the fact that I ran 13.1 miles in 20-degree weather last year, BUT STILL.
Despite all this, we’ve had some exciting things happen in February and I’d love to share them with you today! Here’s what’s been going on in the Bacon household:
1.) Our children’s museum has a new dinosaur exhibit! It includes a maze that has information about dinosaurs, a fossil digging area, and even a Triceratops that moves its head. Now, Allison HATES animatronics usually. Especially ones that make noise. But this one doesn’t make a sound, so now Cera the dinosaur is Allison’s best friend. She could probably spend a couple hours just staring at this thing.
2.) One day this month it was like 60 degrees. Isn’t it weird how that can feel like Summer when you’re used to super cold weather? We were actually able to go outside and take a walk!
3.) This puzzle right here is insane. I got it for Christmas a couple years ago and still haven’t finished it. It’s 200 pieces, and most of them are all black or with stained glass window-type colors so they All. Look. Alike. We love Kiki’s Delivery Service, though. Someday we’ll actually finish it!
4.) Allison decided on a whim one day that she wanted to make her own lunch. So she did! She chose two PB&J sliders, string cheese, peanuts, and a piece of chocolate. And then ate her sandwiches with a knife and fork. It’s not the most well-rounded lunch, but she got everything out herself and made it, and that’s good enough for me for now!
5.) And immediately after lunch, Allison ran off and came back looking like this. She’s been so obsessed with superheroes, and she’s also been playing a LEGO Batman game on her tablet. So now she likes pretending to be Batman.
6.) This bag at Dollar Tree has got to be one of my most favorite finds ever. The picture is just so surreal, I couldn’t not buy it. It also helps that Wreck-It Ralph is one of my favorite movies!
7.) I’m definitely not going hungry on Whole30! I do still tend to snack even though you’re not supposed to, but most meals are keeping me full which is nice.
8.) Being able to stay home with Allison means I get to do all sorts of fun stuff with her- like volunteer at her Valentine’s party at school! She loaded up on sugar, did crafts, had a gift exchange, and proudly walked around telling her friends, “That’s my mom!”
9.) This past Saturday we went to a Valentine’s glow dance party! The room was dark and filled with flashing lights, and Allison had a blast dancing with her glow wand, decorating (and eating) a heart cookie, and making a craft. She’s usually not big on dancing in public, but this time she was all for it.
Listening to: A video game playlist I’ve created on Spotify. I signed up for a 60-day free trial of Premium to get 250 Starbucks rewards stars (I know, I’m lame) and I figured I may as well take advantage of it while I can. I do like how there are no ads, but not enough to pay $10 a month after the trial.
Currently playing: Final Fantasy 7 on my PSP. I go back and forth between games a lot, but I always seem to come back to this one because it’s so addicting. There’s a remake coming out for the PS4 in the next year or so, and I’ll be first in line to grab my copy!
Whole30 status: Today is day 12 and I’m still going pretty strong! Unfortunately I’m pretty impatient, as my eczema is still flaring up and itchy and I want Whole30 to show me why I keep getting flare-ups. I know this takes time, especially knowing I’ve had eczema my whole life, but it’s so easy to get discouraged when you don’t see results right away.
On the plus side, I found these Nut Pods on Amazon and they’re the best coffee creamer ever. I feel like I can never give up my half and half, but this stuff is so close that I can’t even tell the difference. Seriously.
Current business projects: I’m attending a health fair next week where I’ll have samples of healthy kids snacks and will be handing out tips on how to feed kids healthy food (While promoting my blog). Then next Saturday I’m teaching a live class on Meal Prep 101! It’s pretty cool how this little blog is turning into a real-life business as well, and I’m excited to see how it grows.
Also in the background, I’ve been working hard on a life-changing course for you that will be released in April. You’ll get more details next month, but if you want to learn how to eat on a super low income, keep your eyes open!
