The end of February is near already! I feel like January was super slow, but February went by really fast. Probably a good thing, because I’m really ready to get outside more with the good weather. March is going to be great, especially next week because I’m celebrating my 2-year blogiversary (!) and John’s and my 6-year anniversary in the same week! Look forward to a giveaway next week to celebrate with me. Before I get too ahead of myself, we still have a bit of February left! Here’s a recap of what’s been going on in our lives this month.
1.) This was one of the first warm days of the year but rain was threatening to fall, so I corralled Allison into the garage to play with chalk! We really needed some fresh air, and this did the trick. She’s gotten really good at drawing rainbows, as you can see on the ground next to her!
2.) Being a nerd, I’ve been trying to get Allison involved in video games as well. I only have a few “kid-friendly” games, and I introduced her to Pikmin for the Gamecube. You play as an astronaut who crashed on a planet, and you enlist the help of aliens, called Pikmin, to help you find the broken pieces of your space ship to get back home. She’s absolutely in love with this game, and even pretends to pull Pikmin out of the ground when we’re outside. I’ll make her a nerd yet!
3.) Allison’s newest thing is writing the word “Hi”! So far, as far as I know, she can write the letter A, L, T, O, H, and I. She’s also gotten really good at stick figures; I gave her a spiral notebook and she’s hard at work filling every page with people.
4.) Sometimes I have to bribe her to go walking with me, and the baby stroller is the perfect way to get her out! We’ll just take a 20-30 minute stroll around the block, singing made-up songs. The sunglasses were her idea, on a cloudy day.
5.) When you need to get in your daily protein, but you really want your Valentine’s treat! Greek yogurt, strawberries, and dark chocolate M&Ms are my new favorite nighttime snack. Luckily, I don’t keep the huge bags of M&Ms in the house all the time, so I have to limit how much I enjoy it. =)
6.) February has been really rough. Allison’s had two colds, one of which she gave to me, so we’ve had a few movie marathon days where I just didn’t want to parent that day. Does that sound horrible? Being cooped up all week due to sickness drives me batty, and I needed some way to keep her still and stop coughing. Whatever keeps us alive!
7.) Recently, she’s been wanting to watch my workout DVDs. I work out in the early morning before she wakes up, so she never gets to see exactly what I do. I’ve shown her some PiYo techniques, but I guess she wanted the full experience of actually doing a workout. Maybe when she gets older we can start doing them together!
8.) Our MOPS group had a Valentine’s party last Friday, and Allison got right to work filling out the cards. I wasn’t sure who all would be there, so I had her write “A” in the From part, and “Hi” in the To part. It was so cute watching her concentrate.
9.) I took her to the mall over the weekend to play in the kids area before going to Fresh Thyme down the street, and for a snack she wanted pretzel sticks. It comes with a sauce and she didn’t want cheese, so I got myself some spicy mustard and figured I’d eat a couple of them with her. NOPE. We sat down, she started inhaling them, I asked if we could share, she shook her head and kept munching. Oh my goodness. She ate 4 and said she was done, and when I grabbed #5 to eat, she took #6 and finished it off! This child is going to eat me out of house and home soon.
Weather: Amazing! This whole week has been in the 60s and we’ve gone to the park pretty much every day except for the past couple, because it rained. Today it’s supposed to be 72. In February. I think I could get used to this!
Health status: No one is sick anymore, finally! There were a rough couple of weeks, but hopefully we’re all done with that junk now.
Currently playing: Final Fantasy 13 one night a week after Allison goes to bed. If there are any goals I’ve kept so far this year, this is it! I’ve also been playing Harvest Moon: Animal Parade because Allison seems to be obsessed with it. She’s recognizing all the characters and knows them by name, which surprises me because I don’t even know all of them yet!
Fitness status: Building muscle and running again! I signed up for a 5k next month and need to work on building up my stamina again. I’m also slower than I thought I was, so I’ll need to work on that as well. I’ve also been doing strength training to build up my muscle; I’m almost done with another 60-day PiYo schedule, but I just got the book “Body By You” out of the library and it looks promising. I’m more interested in bodyweight training because I don’t have access to a gym or equipment, and I feel like this book is going to take me places I never thought possible. Also still using MyFitnessPal to track my food so if you’re a member as well, feel free to add me!
