It’s that time again- Summer vacation is over and the kids are back to school.
While I’m happy we’re getting into a routine again, I was actually really enjoying Summer. We took a few vacations, went to Kings Island once a week… it was awesome.
And after what seemed like only a couple weeks, school’s back in session. The good news is that the weather is finally starting to cool off! It’s been in the upper 80s, but now it’s starting to cool off into like 80/upper 70s and that means one thing- Fall is coming!
August flew by in a heartbeat, but here’s what we were able to accomplish this month:
1.) I only go to Cheesecake Factory like once a year. And when I do, I eat an entire piece of cheesecake just because I can. This was the Red Velvet Cheesecake, and oh my goodness it was amazing. Next time I’m getting one of the peanut butter chocolate ones because that’s definitely my weakness.
2.) I co-taught a kids PiYo class earlier this month! Allison’s been obsessed with PiYo and apparently teaches her friends at church in their downtime. We had 5 kids come and do an awesome job keeping up for a whole 30 minutes!
3.) Look at this ride announcement. Kings Island is finally getting a giga coaster and I’m so pumped! Millenium Force is one of my favorite rides at Cedar Point and now Kings Island is getting something very similar next year. And there’s a huge possibility Allison may be tall enough when it’s finished because she’s growing like a weed.
4.) This was my first time making macaroni and cheese in my Instant Pot and I can’t believe how easy it was! I like how hands-off using the Instant Pot can be, and cooking the pasta in there was a huge time-saver. I think this is a definite make-again recipe.
5.) My little baby started Kindergarten last week!!! I was looking back at her other pictures over the years and in her preschool picture, her head didn’t even reach that brown bar. It’s amazing to see how much she grows.
6.) Allison informed me that she was having trouble opening her lunch container at school, so I quickly ordered something easier for her. This Yumbox is the cutest thing ever! It has an insert with divided sections, which is perfect for her snacking personality. Plus there’s just one small snap in front that she can open easily. This one was like 28 dollars but I can tell it’s going to be worth the money!
7.) These cinnamon rolls are the bane of my existence. Only because they’re so delicious I can’t stop myself from eating like all of them. I made them for Allison’s first-day-of-school breakfast and had them for breakfast, dessert… they’re good anytime, really.
8.) My sister’s birthday was Wednesday, and Allison made a LEGO cupcake for her. She even designed a pretty backdrop and took the picture herself!
9.) Now that Allison’s in school all day, John and I have opportunities to eat lunch together on Fridays because he typically works four 10-hour shifts. Last week we chose Panera, and it was really nice to just sit and talk without worrying about the time. We decided to do this once a month!
Currently listening to: “La Belle Sauvage” by Philip Pullman. I’m obsessed with his His Dark Materials series, and I’m ashamed to say I just found out about this new addition even though it’s been out since 2017. This new trilogy is a prequel of sorts and explains the circumstances of when Lyra was a baby. If you’re a fan of Philip Pullman, get this book!
What’s saving my life: Similar to above, the Libby app has been a lifesaver! You connect the app to your local library and you can check out digital books or audio books from your library. It’s similar to the Overdrive app, but this is much more user-friendly.
What I’m excited about: This new planner! I’ve been using the Bloom planners for 4 years now and I’ve loved the designs and how well they fit my needs. But now, I’m looking for something bigger with more space for to-do lists. The Simplified Planner has built-in checklists, a spot for dinner, and plenty of room to write! It was a little pricey at $26.00, but I think it’s worth it.
Goal for September: Get my life together! This is week 2 of Allison being in school and me working outside the home 3 days a week. It’s got its challenges for sure, but I’m still trying to figure out how to blog full time, go to work, clean the house, and spend time with Allison with our drastically-shortened time. I have major respect for the parents who work all day.
What’s been going on in your life this month? How do you find a new schedule with your kids back in school?
