Welcome to April’s edition of Breakfast With Bacon! I can’t believe the end of the month is almost here already. Spring has finally arrived… what’s up with the sudden change in temperatures? One day it was so cold it was snowing, and like 3 days later it was 80 degrees. Thanks, Ohio weather! Thankfully, it seems to have evened out, and Spring is finally here.
Allison and I have played outside more in the past 2 weeks than I think we have in 3 months. Part of it is me wanting to get my steps in for the day, and it’s just easier to throw shoes on and go outside than it is to drive to a store and walk around. We have a park just down the road, so we’ve been getting out the wagon and pulling Allie down there to play.
We’re also finally getting used to John being at home. It was rough at first, because my schedule was completely messed up trying to work around him, but now that the newness has worn off, we’re doing pretty good. He’s working incredibly hard to find a job, and I totally appreciate all his efforts!
1.) My friend Katrina loves to bake, and she loves books. Naturally, she loves cookbooks. She gave me this recipe for a honey wheat loaf from Betty Crocker and I’m seriously hooked, guys. This recipe makes 2 loaves, and I just put one in the freezer only to take it back out again in a few days because we already ate the first one. Making your own bread is cheaper and tastes amazing!
2.) Allison loves to copy me when I’m doing exercises. This was her idea of a push-up, although it looks more like a Downward Dog.
3.) Now that John’s home for the unforseeable future, we’ve had a bit more time for family events when he’s not job hunting. That day we visited our local Air Force museum; Allie kept saying she wanted to ride in an airplane, but when she had the opportunity to climb into a cockpit, she chickened out!
4.) An example of thinking on my toes. I had something in the slow cooker for dinner that day that wasn’t going to be anywhere near ready for dinnertime, so I had to improvise with stuff in my pantry. I boiled a package of gnocchi, then mixed it with a can of tuna and ate it with a jar of Alfredo sauce. Sounds weird, but it tasted really good!
5.) Almost every Sunday, I would go out with my laptop and get a coffee while catching up on blog work. I don’t want to spend any money on that anymore right now, so I’ve been using my Swagbucks to redeem for Panera Bread gift cards. Plus, I received a lovely reward on my Panera card for a free bagel every day in April. Needless to say, I’ve been taking advantage of that!
6.) That, my friends, is a squirrel. Eating ramen noodles in my backyard. John and Allie went outside one morning, and John came back in and said, “Uh…. Jaime, did you put ramen noodles in Allie’s playhouse?” Someone, or something, put two blocks of opened, uncooked ramen noodles in there. I have no idea how it happened, and I don’t want to know.
7.) Allison got a big girl bed! She’s been waking up dry in the mornings and after naptime, so we took a road trip to IKEA and got her this lovely bed. She absolutely loves it!
8.) My friend Stephanie over at Wife Mommy Me introduced me to these water beads. They’re super cool; you place the tiny beads in water overnight and they turn into huge jelly-like beads to play with! Right now she just has fun throwing them in a muffin tin, but they’d be great for sorting by color, or counting.
9.) Um, yeah. This is a sneak peek of all the crap we’re going to sell next week at our garage sale. Most of it is Allison’s old clothes and toys, but there’s a lot of our stuff in there, too. We’ve lived in the house for 5 years and have never really gotten rid of anything, so I’ve been busy doing a LOT of decluttering. John’s afraid he’s next.
Have a great weekend!
